SAN ANTONIO, Texas– A 23-year-old San Antonio woman faces a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years after authorities charged her with animal cruelty following a video showing her assaulting her three-month-old poodle.
In January, a neighbor witnessed and recorded Havanna Miller on an apartment balcony repeatedly hitting the puppy, named Thanos.
Animal Care Services (ACS) launched an investigation after receiving the footage. Law enforcement arrested Miller and charged her with third-degree felony animal cruelty. A court scheduled her sentencing for October 28, with potential penalties including two to ten years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
Following the video’s release, ACS obtained legal custody of Thanos through a judge’s order. The poodle was transferred to an out-of-state rescue organization for rehabilitation and care.
Authorities urge the public to report any suspected animal cruelty to local agencies to protect vulnerable animals. Advocates hope the case will lead to stronger enforcement and penalties to deter future violations.
Miller remains in legal custody as proceedings continue. Officials stress that animal abuse will face full legal consequences and emphasize the importance of community involvement in addressing such cases.
