SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio is providing communities with data on nuisance properties and local problems by zip code, city officials said.
The Office of Integrated Community Safety collects information from city services and resident calls to identify issues specific to each neighborhood. Maria Vargas Yates, the office’s director, has hosted a series of “Good Neighbor” meetings since last fall to share the findings with residents.
The meetings allow residents to review data, confirm its accuracy, and offer input on potential solutions. Vargas Yates said reporting minor issues through the city’s 311 system, rather than ignoring them, can prevent larger public safety problems from developing.
Examples of reported concerns include overgrown grass, damaged sidewalks, standing water, and graffiti, which help the office understand patterns of neighborhood disorder.
Vargas Yates said she plans to revisit neighborhoods to show residents how their area compares with others and explain next steps based on the collected data. She encouraged communities to contact her office to request specific neighborhood information.
The city has scheduled multiple Good Neighbor meetings throughout the year, with additional sessions available upon community request.
