San Antonio officials are responding to the ongoing federal government shutdown with focused support for military families and uninterrupted city services.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and City Manager Erik Walsh confirmed that essential operations—such as public safety, waste management, and water supply—will continue without disruption.

With San Antonio’s economy deeply tied to its military community, the shutdown has led to delayed paychecks and growing financial strain for active-duty personnel, federal employees, and contractors.

Joint Base San Antonio, one of the city’s largest employers, houses over 80,000 military and civilian workers, many now facing uncertainty.

City leaders are working with local organizations to offer support programs, including financial counseling and assistance for affected families. Local businesses have joined the effort, offering discounts and services to those impacted.

City departments have implemented contingency plans to maintain operations and are coordinating with state and federal agencies for a broader response. Officials have also established communication channels to keep the public informed and connected to resources.

Mayor Jones and City Manager Walsh urged federal lawmakers to end the shutdown promptly, warning of growing economic consequences for the city.
