SAN ANTONIO — Cleanup efforts are underway after a tornado and severe storms caused significant damage across northwest San Antonio on Wednesday, city officials said.
The storm affected areas near the University of Texas at San Antonio, The Rim, Camp Bullis, Crown Ridge and The Dominion, bringing down trees and scattering debris. No injuries were reported.
The heaviest structural damage occurred at the Oasis Apartments on UTSA Boulevard, where a large section of the roof was torn off and three fourth-floor units were damaged.
The city said the American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents. Those needing assistance can call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Residents are also encouraged to report storm-related property damage through the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool. Officials said submitting a report is voluntary and does not replace filing an insurance claim or guarantee disaster assistance.
The city is providing debris collection in affected neighborhoods and advised residents to place debris at the curb away from vehicles and other obstructions. Residents needing help with debris removal, downed trees or property damage assessments can call 311.
City crews removed 57 trees following this week’s storms, including 34 on Wednesday, and barricaded 20 low-water crossings as of Wednesday afternoon.
Officials urged residents to avoid flooded roads, damaged areas and downed power lines. Anyone who encounters a downed power line should contact CPS Energy at 210-353-4357, while residents who smell gas should move to a safe location, call 911 and notify CPS Energy immediately.
