SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio retailers recorded a nearly flat start to the 2025 holiday shopping season, as city sales tax collections for November showed minimal growth compared with the same period last year, according to data from the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

San Antonio collected just under $41 million in sales tax revenue for November, which includes the post-Thanksgiving shopping period. That total represents an increase of about 0.33 percent from November 2024.

By comparison, Houston and Austin each posted sales tax collection increases of about 6 percent during the same period. Dallas reported a smaller increase than San Antonio at 0.29 percent.

The Texas Comptroller’s Office collects local sales taxes each month and returns them to cities, with the figures serving as an indicator of local and statewide economic activity.

San Antonio also trailed the statewide average increase of nearly 6 percent for November, which exceeded the rate of inflation. State Comptroller Kelly Hancock highlighted the statewide growth, describing it as evidence of continued strength in the Texas economy.

Complete sales tax data for December are still needed to fully assess retailer performance during the 2025 holiday shopping season.
