SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said affordability will be a central concern for the city as it plans for 2026.

She discussed the issue during a recent interview on “Inside Texas Politics.”

Jones said city leaders monitor housing costs, wages, and access to basic services to guide budgeting and long-term planning. She said rising rents and home prices put pressure on many families, who also face costs for utilities, transportation, and health care.

The mayor said the city analyzes neighborhood trends and household budgets to understand affordability challenges. She said local policies aim to support working families, particularly those in lower- and middle-income brackets.

Jones said the city considers how potential changes to state and federal programs could affect residents. Cuts to housing assistance, health services, or food support could increase demand for local services.

She said San Antonio works with community groups, business leaders, and schools to expand access to job training and quality employment. She added that infrastructure and transportation projects help connect people to jobs and services.
