SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has announced the formation of the Mayor’s Economic Security Advisory Group (ESAG) to strengthen the city’s innovation ecosystem and position San Antonio as a leader in advanced technologies.

The advisory group will focus on emerging sectors including artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology, and space manufacturing, providing the mayor with guidance on opportunities and strategies to enhance competitiveness.

“San Antonio isn’t going to wait around to be asked to do something,” Jones said. “We’re going to identify opportunities to strengthen and grow our ecosystem, leverage our natural strategic advantages, and move our city forward.”

ESAG members bring expertise in national security, advanced manufacturing, and biomedical fields, with Jim Perschbach, president and CEO of Port San Antonio, serving as chair. Ten other members with U.S. military and CEO experience will join the group to help identify local initiatives and coordinate support from state and federal partners.

Jones emphasized that San Antonio’s unique position as Military City USA gives it a strategic advantage to lead in high-tech innovation and economic growth.
