SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The City Council is set to vote on two critical resolutions that could determine the future of Project Marvel, a proposed $4 billion downtown arena and entertainment district involving the San Antonio Spurs.
The first resolution seeks to pause progress on the current term sheet with the Spurs. It calls for an independent economic study to assess the project’s potential impact before negotiations proceed. Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones supports this measure, stressing the importance of fiscal responsibility and thorough evaluation.
The second resolution supports continued negotiations under the existing term sheet. Advocates argue this path would accelerate development, attract tourism, create jobs, and solidify San Antonio’s reputation as a major destination for sports and entertainment. The Spurs have pledged more than $1 billion toward the project, reinforcing their commitment.\
Mayor Jones reiterated the need for transparency and data-driven decision-making, stating that an economic study would help ensure the project serves the broader community’s interests.
