SAN ANTONIO, Texas — AT&T announced the completion of a fiber optic internet expansion project that extends high-speed connectivity to more than 20,000 residents across San Antonio.

The initiative, conducted in partnership with the City of San Antonio, aims to enhance broadband access and digital infrastructure throughout the city.

The project involved the installation of new fiber optic lines to improve internet speed and reliability for households, schools, and businesses.

According to AT&T, the expansion forms part of a broader effort to strengthen network capabilities across Texas. From 2020 to 2024, AT&T invested nearly $12.9 billion in infrastructure development across several Texas cities, including San Antonio.

City officials said the expanded network will support economic development and improve access to digital resources. The infrastructure upgrades are expected to benefit remote workers, students, and local businesses that rely on high-speed internet for daily operations.

AT&T stated that the fiber expansion contributes to its goal of reducing the digital divide and promoting equitable access to technology. The company said that the improved connectivity will enable faster data transfer, stable connections, and better support for modern digital applications.

Officials said collaboration between public and private sectors was essential to completing the project efficiently.

AT&T’s efforts in San Antonio are part of its nationwide strategy to expand fiber and 5G networks across both urban and rural areas. The company continues to pursue similar projects in other parts of Texas and the United States.
