Nadia Montenegro quits office, disputes marijuana use accusation

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Nadia Montenegro resigned from her position as political affairs officer for Senator Robin Padilla on Monday, amid an ongoing investigation into alleged marijuana use within the Senate premises.

Padilla’s chief of staff, Rudolf Philip Jurado, confirmed Montenegro’s resignation, which took effect immediately.

In a statement, Montenegro cited concerns for her mental health and the welfare of her children as the primary reasons for stepping down. She denied any involvement in the alleged drug use and described the situation as both distressing and humiliating.

The Senate investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released regarding the allegations.
