San Antonio, TX — Ric Galvan, 24, is set to become one of the youngest members of the San Antonio City Council after narrowly winning the runoff election for the District 6 seat.

Galvan defeated opponent Kelly Ann Gonzalez by a margin of 25 votes, receiving 50.1% of the total vote, according to official results.

A lifelong resident of District 6, Galvan will serve a four-year term representing the area. His campaign emphasized priorities such as housing affordability, public safety, sustainable development, and support for working families.

Galvan received support from progressive groups, including the Democratic Socialists of America.

Galvan currently works as a political organizer. His election adds another progressive voice to the city council and reflects a growing trend of younger leaders seeking public office at the local level.

The runoff campaign between Galvan and Gonzalez, 34, was noted for its respectful tone. Gonzalez, a labor organizer, ran on a platform focused on workers’ rights and community advocacy.

Both candidates emphasized policy-focused campaigns without engaging in personal attacks.

Galvan’s election marks a potential shift in the council’s political composition. His stated priorities include addressing the rising cost of housing and improving public services in District 6.

He has pledged to maintain active communication with residents and promote inclusive policymaking.
