MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in partnership with the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP), will launch a nationwide grassroots program on May 18 to expand access to golf and develop young players.
The program, called “Fairway to the Future,” will begin at Club Intramuros Golf Course and will target Filipino youth, including public school students, children of caddies, and out-of-school youth.
PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio said the initiative will open access to golf facilities that have traditionally been limited to private club members. He said selected government-owned and partner golf courses will serve as training venues for participants aged 18 and below, with access scheduled in the midafternoon to twilight hours.
“Golf has long been confined to private clubs and elite circles,” Gregorio said.
Organizers said about 20 golf courses nationwide will participate in the initial rollout. Driving ranges will also be made available to young players under the supervision of coaches accredited by NGAP.
NGAP president Al Panlilio said the program aims to provide opportunities for aspiring golfers who lack access to training facilities.
The initiative also includes a coach development component. NGAP secretary-general Bones Floro said international support will assist in training local coaches and standardizing instruction across participating sites.
