MANILA, Philippines– Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez has filed Resolution No. 2173, calling for an investigation into the alleged non-payment of nearly P59.6 billion in hospital reimbursements by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Rodriguez filed the resolution on Thursday, prompting the House of Representatives to begin an inquiry into the claims.

The resolution responds to concerns about PhilHealth’s delay in settling reimbursements with hospitals and healthcare providers across the country.

Rodriguez highlighted that the unpaid claims have accumulated over the past seven years and need urgent clarification.

Recent discussions during a health committee meeting revealed that the reimbursement delays have caused financial difficulties for hospitals, affecting operations, staffing, and the ability to purchase necessary medical supplies.

Rodriguez warned that these issues could impact healthcare services if hospitals decide to reduce their partnerships with PhilHealth.

Rodriguez called for a review of PhilHealth’s processes to identify potential inefficiencies and ensure timely payments in the future.

He stressed that the investigation must address the root causes of the delays and hold the agency accountable.

PhilHealth has faced increasing scrutiny regarding its ability to fulfill its financial obligations to healthcare providers. Rodriguez’s resolution aims to ensure that the agency resolves these payment issues and restores trust in its operations.

The House of Representatives has not yet announced when the inquiry will begin. However, the resolution signals a legislative effort to address the claims and ensure PhilHealth meets its financial responsibilities.
