President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed concerns over the rising threat of monkeypox, leptospirosis, and dengue in the Philippines. He spoke on Friday at the Local Governance Summit 2024 held in Pasay City.

Marcos urged local government units to adopt effective and environmentally friendly solutions to tackle these public health issues. He highlighted the importance of integrating public health efforts with environmental safety. By doing so, local governments can not only protect citizens from diseases but also promote a healthier environment.

The President underscored recent increases in cases of monkeypox, leptospirosis, and dengue, noting that these health challenges require swift and decisive action. He emphasized the role of local administrations in implementing strategies that prioritize health and sustainability.

Marcos pointed out the need for smart solutions that can adapt to the unique needs of each community. He encouraged local leaders to explore innovative measures that align with environmental conservation. His comments focused on the importance of collaboration among various government sectors, including health and environmental agencies, to achieve comprehensive action plans.

During the summit, discussions centered on successful initiatives and strategies from different regions. Marcos acknowledged local governments working proactively to address rising health threats while also caring for the environment. He described these approaches as models that others can learn from and implement in their communities.

Health experts have warned about the potential risks posed by these infectious diseases. Monkeypox, a viral disease, has gained attention due to its sudden emergence. Leptospirosis and dengue are endemic diseases that have affected many Filipinos each year. Proactive measures are critical to curbing their spread and protecting citizens.

Local governments play a crucial role in awareness campaigns, community health programs, and environmental management. Marcos called for increased funding and resources to support initiatives aimed at disease prevention and mitigation.

The President wrapped up his speech by reiterating the importance of a unified approach. He urged local leaders to remain vigilant and act decisively. He recognized the growing concern of communities and the urgency needed in responding to health threats.
