A 17-year-old high school student died in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning in Port Aransas, Texas.

According to the Port Aransas Police Department, the incident occurred on Cotter Avenue when the Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Byron Davis left the roadway and collided with a building. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Davis dead. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Initial findings indicate that Davis may have lost control of the vehicle. Authorities continue to examine whether other factors played a role in the incident.

Davis was a student at Port Aransas High School. The school district confirmed his identity and announced that grief counselors will be available to support students and staff.

A vigil was held at the high school on Saturday evening. Students, faculty, and community members attended the gathering to honor Davis.

Davis’s family released a statement through a spokesperson, thanking the community for its support and requesting privacy. Funeral arrangements are in progress, with details to be announced.

A fundraising campaign has been established to assist the family with expenses.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information related to the crash to contact the Port Aransas Police Department.
