Pope Leo XIV expressed sympathy for the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu on Sept. 30.

The Apostolic Nuncio delivered the message to the affected communities. The earthquake killed dozens and caused widespread destruction across the region.

Emergency teams mobilized quickly to deliver aid and support. Local officials assessed the damage and requested international assistance for recovery. The quake severely damaged infrastructure, leaving survivors without access to food, water, and shelter.

Religious leaders around the world joined Pope Leo XIV in offering prayers and support to grieving families. The disaster renewed global conversations about earthquake preparedness and the need for stronger building standards in high-risk zones.

Nations and humanitarian groups pledged help and began coordinating donations to reach affected areas. The Philippine government committed to ensuring the safety and recovery of its people as the region continues to rebuild.
