Roberto Romero

The Austin Police Department is actively searching for a missing man with special needs, 41-year-old Roberto Romero, who has Down Syndrome. Romero was reported to have left his home in the 8200 block of Research Blvd. in North Austin on November 10 around 7 p.m. He was last sighted near Lazy Lane and Research Boulevard at approximately 10:30 p.m. that same evening.

Authorities described Romero as a Hispanic male, approximately 4 feet 9 inches in height, weighing 235 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen without a shirt but wearing gray shorts and black Crocs. Additionally, he was observed with a purple and pink flower print blanket.

The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Romero to 911 immediately. The Austin Police Department has also established a dedicated line for information regarding his disappearance. Those with relevant information can contact the missing persons unit at (512) 974-5250.

Family members of Romero are appealing to the community for assistance in locating him. His mother, Maria Romero, expressed deep concern for his safety, stating that he requires daily medication. She emphasized the urgency of his safe return and asked for anyone with information to come forward.

The Austin Police Department has intensified their search efforts, deploying officers to canvas the areas where Romero was last seen. They are also utilizing social media platforms to circulate his image and description, hoping to reach a broader audience.

Search parties, including volunteers from the community, have joined the efforts to locate Romero. Flyers with his photograph and details have been distributed throughout North Austin neighborhoods and local businesses.

This case has drawn significant attention from local media and advocacy groups for individuals with disabilities. Organizations focused on the welfare of people with special needs have expressed their support and are working alongside the police to ensure Romero is found safely.

In such cases, time is of the essence. The police department is operating under the assumption that Romero may not be fully aware of his surroundings and could potentially be in danger. They have emphasized the importance of public cooperation and are hopeful that community involvement will lead to a positive outcome.

The search strategy includes door-to-door inquiries and the examination of local CCTV footage. Authorities are assessing tips and leads from the public, although no substantial breakthroughs have been reported yet.
