MANILA, Philippines– The Philippines and the United States announced the creation of “Task Force Philippines,” a joint initiative designed to counter China’s coercive and aggressive actions in the South China Sea and the West Philippine Sea.
Officials from both nations said the task force would enhance military cooperation and strengthen joint strategic efforts to ensure maritime security in contested waters.
Philippine officials underscored the importance of protecting national sovereignty and preserving freedom of navigation, while U.S. representatives reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting regional allies and promoting stability.
The task force will conduct joint military exercises, maritime patrols, and intelligence-sharing operations to improve readiness and coordination between the two nations’ armed forces.
Officials explained that the task force would operate within the framework of existing defense agreements, including the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.
