NAYPYIDAW, Myanmar — A Philippine humanitarian response team of 91 members arrived in Naypyidaw on the afternoon of April 1, 2025, to provide disaster relief following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar’s Sagaing Region on March 28, 2025.

The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in the Philippines confirmed the deployment.

The earthquake, which had its epicenter near Mandalay, caused over 2,000 deaths and around 4,000 injuries, according to Myanmar’s military government. The disaster also left many residents trapped under collapsed buildings.

The Philippine team plans to stay in Myanmar for two weeks, working alongside local authorities and international organizations to ensure efficient disaster response and aid distribution. The team includes search and rescue experts, medical professionals, and logistics support personnel.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported maintaining close contact with Myanmar’s authorities to ensure the safety of aid workers and facilitate further support.

The DFA is also monitoring the situation regarding missing persons, including four Filipinos who remain unaccounted for after the quake.

Myanmar, located between the India and Eurasia tectonic plates, is highly susceptible to seismic activity.

The recent earthquake is among the most powerful in recent years, adding to the country’s history of devastation from such natural events.

International aid continues to flow into Myanmar, with emergency medical care, food, clean drinking water, and temporary shelters being provided.
