MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has announced an extension of the preventive suspension for a judge and a clerk of court in Pasay City. This decision comes after both individuals faced allegations of accepting a bribe worth P6 million.

The high court made the announcement on Tuesday. They confirmed that the extension was based on a recommendation from the Judicial Integrity Board (JIB). The JIB’s recommendation aims to ensure a thorough investigation into the allegations against the accused. The Supreme Court indicated that the suspension is necessary to uphold the integrity of the judiciary during this process.

The judge and the clerk of court were initially suspended earlier this year after the allegations surfaced. The preventive suspension serves to prevent any potential interference with the investigation. It also safeguards the integrity of ongoing judicial proceedings in the Pasay court.

According to sources, the allegations suggest that the judge and the clerk of court accepted the bribe in connection with a specific case. The details of the case have not been disclosed, as the investigation is still ongoing. The Supreme Court has emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards within the judiciary.

The JIB plays a crucial role in addressing complaints related to judicial misconduct. It evaluates such cases and makes recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding preventive measures like suspensions. The extension of the suspension highlights the court’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the judicial system.

Members of the legal community and the public have expressed their concerns regarding allegations of corruption within the judiciary. They have called for stringent measures to uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice is served without bias.
