No finals for PH at Asean U-23, team sets sights on third

The Philippines lost 2-1 to Vietnam in the semifinals of the Asean U-23 Championship on August 24, 2023, at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Javier Mariona scored for the Philippines in the 36th minute, giving them an early lead.

Vietnam responded with goals by Nguyen Dinh Bac in the 41st minute and Nguyen Xuan Bac in the 54th minute to secure their spot in the finals.

Vietnam will face host Indonesia in the championship match.

This defeat ended the Philippine team’s hopes of winning the title under Coach Garrath McPherson.

The team now aims to achieve a third-place finish in the tournament.
