HOUSTON, Texas– Health officials issued a public warning after an individual with measles visited three retail stores in North Texas while infected.
The individual, who later tested positive for measles, visited the unidentified stores in Plano over two days. Authorities have not yet released the names of the specific locations.
Health officials advised anyone who may have been in the same stores during the exposure period to watch for signs of measles, which include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a rash that typically appears several days after the initial symptoms.
Anyone who experiences symptoms is urged to contact their health care provider and call ahead before visiting a medical facility to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is the most effective protection, with two doses recommended for children — the first between 12 and 15 months of age and the second between 4 and 6 years.
Collin County health leaders are coordinating with local hospitals, clinics, and schools to inform the public and provide guidance.
North Texas residents are urged to verify their vaccination status and ensure that children and vulnerable individuals are protected.
