MANILA, Philippines– The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) remained silent on the recent imposition of a three-year ban affecting free agents and rookies who decide to join other leagues, both locally and internationally.

PBA officials, including Commissioner Willie Marcial, have not confirmed details of the ban’s implementation. League sources revealed the ban, which aims to deter players from moving to overseas leagues such as Japan’s B.League and South Korea’s KBL.

The PBA circulated a memo informing teams of the new guidelines intended to retain talent within the league.

The ban applies to players who refuse league contracts, though specific exemptions include players not receiving contract offers within a 30-day grace period post-contract expiration.
