MANILA, Philippines — LA Tenorio has been appointed as the new head coach of the Magnolia Hotshots, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Sports Director Alfrancis Chua announced Monday in Manila.
The appointment comes just weeks after Tenorio hinted at retiring from professional basketball, marking a significant transition from his role as a veteran player with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to a leadership position with one of the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) top franchises.
Chua confirmed the development in a public statement, revealing that discussions with Tenorio about his post-playing career began a month ago. Their talks culminated in the formal decision to name Tenorio as head coach.
In a light-hearted remark during the announcement, Chua referenced Tenorio’s achievements, including his gold medal performance in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) competition, noting these accomplishments as part of the basis for the coaching role.
