Calvin Abueva was fined ₱20,000 by the Philippine Basketball Association for remarks he made against game officials following the Ginebra vs. Converge FiberXers game in the Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, March 29.

Videos showed Abueva shouting “paldo” and “paldo silang apat” toward referees after Ginebra’s 99-93 win over Converge before returning to the dugout.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said the league imposed a one-time fine instead of a suspension, calling Abueva’s statements “malicious and unfounded” and “tantamount to conduct detrimental to the best interest of the league.”

Abueva met with Marcial on Monday to explain his side and has apologized. The league warned him not to repeat the behavior.

Abueva and the FiberXers, who hold a 1-4 record, are scheduled to play Rain or Shine on Friday, April 10, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
