AUSTIN — The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) announced that some Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in Texas began receiving partial benefits on Monday, November 10, more than a week after the usual schedule.

Clients whose issuance dates fall between the 1st and the 10th of the month were told that partial payments would be loaded onto their Lone Star Cards on November 10. Recipients with dates beginning November 11 and later will receive partial benefits on their usual issuance dates.

HHSC said the move follows guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which ordered states to issue partial benefits amid federal funding disruptions tied to the government shutdown.

Some households reportedly received up to 65 % of their typical monthly benefit, while others reported much lower amounts or no payment yet.

HHSC encouraged recipients who encounter problems with their Lone Star Cards to contact the agency for assistance. Food banks and advocacy groups warned the benefit delay has put vulnerable families under increased financial strain
