DAVAO CITY — Paolo Duterte said Wednesday that his father, Rodrigo Duterte, remains in good condition while in custody at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, adding that he recently met with him.

Speaking to media, the lawmaker said the former president was “good and happy,” and advised Filipinos to limit spending amid the current economic situation. “He said there really isn’t any good way to handle the current economic crisis… ‘pugong lang’ — restrain from spending, restrain everything,” he said.

Paolo Duterte said his father has gained weight, his knees are strong, and he is receiving proper care from medical staff at the detention facility. He also confirmed that the former president is aware of gatherings held by supporters in the Netherlands and in the Philippines, including events marking his 81st birthday.

Supporters of the former president, known as Diehard Duterte Supporters, have maintained a presence outside the detention center in The Hague since his detention.

Separately, Paolo Duterte said he received information about a supposed plan to search his residence in Davao City. He criticized what he described as “made-up” reports and warned he would pursue legal action against those responsible.

Peter Madria, director of the Davao City Police Office, denied that any search warrant had been served at Duterte’s residence. He said the Talomo Police Station confirmed that no such operation took place.
