Palace claps back at Imee Marcos’ ‘ITIM’ ad with sun bleaching joke

MANILA, Philippines– Malacañang Palace on Tuesday addressed the latest campaign advertisement by Senator Imee Marcos, titled “ITIM,” which featured Vice President Sara Duterte and portrayed a dark situation under the presidency of Imee’s brother.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro responded to the advertisement, stating that the current administration is making efforts to resolve the socio-economic issues inherited from the past administration.

Castro used the metaphor of “sun bleaching” to describe these efforts, suggesting a positive transformation akin to lightening the darkness depicted in the campaign ad.

The ad, titled “ITIM,” is a Filipino word meaning black, and also stands for “Inday Trusts Imee,” with Inday being a nickname for Sara Duterte.

The campaign ad suggests a bleak view of the country’s state under the current leadership, depicting imagery associated with darkness.

Imee Marcos’ advertisement is perceived as a critique of the previous administration led by her sibling.
