MANILA, Philippines– The Philippine government celebrated Filipina tennis player Alexandra Eala’s victory in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Miami Open on Thursday.

Presidential Communications Officer Claire Castro praised Eala for bringing pride to the nation during a Palace briefing.

The 19-year-old Eala made history by defeating five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek, ranked second in the world, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.

Eala triumphed in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

This victory marked Eala’s first entry into the semifinals of a major tournament, signaling her rising potential in global tennis.

In a post-match interview, Eala expressed gratitude for the support from her fans and the Philippine government.

Eala’s next match, set for later this week, will see her face another top-ranked opponent in the semifinals.

Eala’s coach expressed confidence in her ability to maintain her momentum, citing her dedication and hard work.

The Miami Open, a prestigious event in the tennis calendar, has brought attention to Eala’s standout performance.
