Manny Pacquiao showcased his pitching skills at New York Yankees’ game against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday (Manila time) at Yankee Stadium. Pacquiao, known for his boxing prowess as an eight-division world champion, threw out the ceremonial first pitch, which was caught by JC Escarra. The Yankees won the game 5-3.
Pacquiao revealed that baseball was his first sport before he became a professional boxer at age 16, and he played both as a batter and a pitcher in elementary school.
His appearance at Yankee Stadium is part of a busy U.S. trip, which included stops at an Los Angeles Clippers game against the San Antonio Spurs, an LA Galaxy match, and an LA Kings game versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee are in the U.S. supporting their son Jimuel’s second professional fight in Temecula, California. The former boxing star is also preparing for a rematch with longtime rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 19, which will be streamed as a Netflix event.
