MANILA, Philippines — Boxing legends Manny and Bobby Pacquiao are setting their sights on the 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines, with aspirations to transition fully into careers in public service. Both brothers are planning to re-enter the political arena, aiming to secure seats in Congress.

Manny Pacquiao, renowned for his unprecedented achievement as an eight-division world boxing champion, is preparing to return to the Senate. This comes after a three-year hiatus from his political duties. Meanwhile, his brother Bobby Pacquiao, a former congressman, is seeking to make a comeback to the House of Representatives following his time as a councilor in General Santos City, their hometown.

The Pacquiao brothers are aligning with the 1-Pacman party-list, a well-established group known for its focus on sports development and poverty alleviation. Manny will run as an administration candidate under the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas. Bobby is announced as the second nominee for the 1-Pacman party-list, which has shown a strong performance in past elections.

Sports entrepreneur Milka Romero is set to lead the 1-Pacman party-list. She takes over from her father, Mikee Romero, who served three terms as the party-list representative. Under his leadership, the party succeeded in enacting 144 laws aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos. Milka Romero intends to continue this legacy, emphasizing the importance of sports as a tool for national development.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Manny Pacquiao expressed his optimism for the future, citing 2025 as a pivotal year for his career in public service. “There’s new hope for the country this New Year. I see 2025 as an opportunity for me to continue my service to the country,” he said in Filipino.

Alongside the political ambitions, Manny Pacquiao anticipates his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June. This honor will see him join fellow boxing icons, including Floyd Mayweather Jr., marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

The 1-Pacman party-list is approaching the 2025 elections with confidence and a renewed focus on their core mission. Milka Romero expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming campaign, stating, “We look forward to 2025 with renewed vigor and optimism for sports development and poverty alleviation in the country. I’m confident 1-Pacman will again make its mark with noteworthy performances from its nominees to the House.”

As the national campaign period is set to begin on February 11, the Pacquiao brothers are preparing to engage with voters and share their vision for the country’s future. With their combined experience in sports and politics, they are hopeful for a successful transition into their legislative roles.
