The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) asked the Supreme Court to dismiss petitions challenging the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, stating its position in a formal submission filed before the court.
The OSG filed the motion before the Supreme Court, arguing that the petitions questioning the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Duterte lack merit. The office said the Constitution grants the House of Representatives the authority to initiate impeachment cases and described the petitions as improper interventions in a legislative process.
The petitions seek to stop or nullify the impeachment proceedings against Duterte, raising constitutional issues related to the process. The OSG maintained that the Supreme Court should not interfere at this stage, citing the separation of powers among government branches.
The impeachment case against Duterte originated in the House of Representatives, where lawmakers endorsed the complaint and initiated proceedings in accordance with constitutional provisions. The process now faces legal challenges brought before the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has yet to issue a ruling on the OSG’s request and the petitions contesting the impeachment case.
