MANILA, Philippines– The Office of the Ombudsman issued a dismissal order against Albay Governor Edcel Greco “Grex” Lagman on January 28, after finding him guilty of grave misconduct related to receiving money from jueteng operators.

The Ombudsman’s decision followed an investigation into allegations that Lagman had received approximately P8 million in protection money from jueteng operators during his tenure.

A self-confessed coordinator for jueteng financiers filed the complaint, claiming that Lagman had accepted the illegal payments.

While the Ombudsman found Lagman guilty of grave misconduct, charges of dishonesty and neglect of duty were dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
