PARIS, France — Czech tennis player Linda Noskova climbed into the WTA Top 10 for the first time on Monday after capturing her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old rose five spots to a career-high world No. 7 after defeating fellow Czech Karolina Muchova, who remained at No. 6, in Saturday’s Wimbledon final.
Noskova claimed her third WTA singles title and first major championship by rallying for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory after letting five championship points slip away in the second set.
Despite a fourth-round exit at Wimbledon to Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka retained the world No. 1 ranking, ahead of Elena Rybakina, who stayed at No. 2.
American Jessica Pegula moved up one place to No. 3 after reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals, while compatriot Coco Gauff climbed three spots to No. 4 following her semifinal appearance.
Former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek dropped five places to No. 8 after her third-round exit at the All England Club.
