DALLAS, Texas — The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has initiated preparations to ensure road safety across the region as freezing weather conditions approach.

Crews have begun applying a brine solution to elevated road surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses, to prevent ice accumulation during the upcoming cold spell.

The brining process involves spreading a saltwater solution on roadways, which reduces the adherence of ice and snow. This preventative step not only helps keep roads clear of ice but also aids in quicker and more efficient clearing after snowfall. The NTTA’s efforts aim to reduce disruptions caused by winter weather, ensuring smoother travel for motorists.

In addition to brining, the NTTA continuously monitors weather forecasts to adjust their response as necessary.

The authority has a long-standing commitment to road safety, routinely applying brine when freezing temperatures are predicted.

Their comprehensive winter preparedness plan includes maintaining a stockpile of road treatment materials, deploying specialized equipment, and coordinating with local authorities to manage road conditions effectively.

Local residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and exercise caution when traveling.

The NTTA advises drivers to reduce speeds and allow extra time for travel, as icy roads and potential delays may occur.

Authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance and preparation, urging residents to take the necessary steps to protect themselves, their families, and their properties as freezing temperatures approach.
