Thousands of customers lost electricity Saturday afternoon after a severe thunderstorm moved across North Texas, according to utility officials and weather authorities.
Oncor reported that its outage map at about 3:30 p.m. showed power interruptions affecting approximately 2,500 customers in Dallas County, 1,600 in Collin County, and 600 in Tarrant County.
By 6 p.m., outages in Dallas County declined to 249 customers. Collin County recorded 158 affected customers, while Tarrant County reported 919 without power.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of southeastern Dallas County Saturday afternoon. Forecasters said the storm could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as a penny.
Oncor stated that it was monitoring the storm system as it moved through parts of its service area and had crews available to restore service. The company said localized flooding could delay restoration efforts.
