DALLAS, Texas –Indonesian authorities have arrested a Texas native and professional basketball player on charges of smuggling cannabis-infused candies.

Jarred Dwayne Shaw, 34, was taken into custody after a police raid on his apartment in Tangerang Regency, near Jakarta, where officers reportedly seized 132 cannabis candies weighing a total of 869 grams.

The arrest comes under Indonesia’s strict drug laws, which carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty for trafficking offenses.

Police stated that the raid was based on intelligence linking Shaw to alleged smuggling activity. Following his arrest, Shaw’s club terminated his contract, and the Indonesian Basketball League issued him a lifetime ban.

Originally from Dallas, Shaw now faces legal proceedings in a country known for its zero-tolerance policy on drug crimes.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing.
