Governor Greg Abbott announced plans to deploy Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and members of the Texas National Guard in Austin this Saturday, October 18, ahead of the planned “No Kings” protest against the Trump administration.

The nationwide demonstration, expected to draw large crowds in multiple cities including Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Austin, aims to voice opposition to the Trump administration’s policies and what organizers describe as “authoritarian governance.”

Governor Abbott said the state deployment is a precautionary measure to maintain public safety and order during the protest. He characterized the event as having potential ties to antifa groups, expressing concern about possible unrest.

Officials have not released the number of troopers or Guard members to be stationed in the capital.

Organizers of the “No Kings” protest stated that the movement advocates for democracy, justice, and fair governance. They emphasized that the demonstrations are intended to be peaceful and inclusive.

The Austin Police Department will coordinate with state forces to monitor the event and ensure safety for participants and residents. Authorities have urged demonstrators to follow safety guidelines and maintain non-violence throughout the protest.

Austin, known for its active civic demonstrations, is expected to see one of the largest turnouts among participating cities. Law enforcement agencies across the country are preparing for similar gatherings under the “No Kings” banner.
