Three days after Melissa Jubane, a 32-year-old nurse from Oregon, was reported missing, authorities have confirmed that she has been found dead. Police have arrested one of her neighbors in connection with her disappearance.

Jubane was last seen on Wednesday when she failed to arrive for her morning shift at Providence St. Vincent Center in Portland. Her absence raised immediate concerns among coworkers, friends, and family, prompting the Beaverton Police Department to initiate a search.

According to a Facebook post by the department, police searched Jubane’s apartment but were unable to locate her. Her lack of communication was described as “unusual and alarming.” Efforts to reach her throughout the day proved unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off. Additionally, searches of her bank and credit card records did not provide any leads.

Following an extensive investigation, officers identified 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert, a neighbor of Jubane, as being involved in her disappearance. He was arrested on Friday night, shortly before Jubane’s remains were recovered.

Schubert is currently being held at Washington County Jail and may face charges of second-degree murder.

Jubane comes from a family of immigrants from the Philippines, but was born in the states. Her brother, a doctor in the region, is reportedly working closely with detectives on this case. However, the family is holding off on interviews due to the active investigation.

Jubane had recently married the week prior to her disappearance. In a statement released by Providence Health & Services, the organization expressed shock over her death and highlighted her dedication as a nurse. “Melissa was an exceptional nurse, committed to our Providence Mission and daily demonstrating our values of compassion, excellence, and integrity,” the statement read. “She was a person of Providence, and we will miss her.”

A friend of Jubane’s described her as someone who “loved helping people” and noted that she always had a big heart.

Here’s a timeline of the key events surrounding Jubane’s final days, her reported disappearance, and the ongoing investigation.

August 2024

  • On August 24, 2024, 32-year-old Melissa Jubane married her longtime partner, Bryan Llantero, in Oahu, Hawaii. The couple celebrated their union with family and friends at Waimea Valley on August 25.
  • Jubane’s mother-in-law shared that the couple met during one of Jubane’s visits to Hawaii, leading to a long-distance relationship where they frequently traveled to see each other. She described Jubane as “humble,” “pretty,” “smart,” and “respectful,” adding that she was like a daughter to her.

September 1-3, 2024

  • The newlyweds returned to the mainland on August 31, arriving in the early morning hours of September 1, according to Jubane’s mother-in-law. They enjoyed Labor Day together before Llantero, an active-duty U.S. Navy member, went to work in Washington state on September 3, while Jubane returned to her job.

September 4, 2024

  • At approximately 10:18 a.m., the Beaverton Police Department received a call for a welfare check on Jubane after she failed to clock in for her morning shift at Providence St. Vincent.
  • Officers visited Jubane’s apartment at 1050 SW 160th Ave. in Beaverton, where they conducted a search. Attempts by investigators and family to reach her by phone were unsuccessful, as it appeared her phone was turned off.
  • Beaverton police reported that searches of Jubane’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information about her whereabouts.
  • By 3:12 p.m., Jubane’s disappearance was entered into national law enforcement databases.
  • Beaverton police shared limited information about her disappearance on their Facebook page at 9:05 a.m.

September 5, 2024

  • Throughout the day, Beaverton law enforcement remained tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation. Providence confirmed Jubane’s role as a cardiac nurse at St. Vincent Medical Center.
  • Community searches were organized for the following day. Beaverton police confirmed that they had deployed a bloodhound to search the apartment complex property and had interviewed several residents on Thursday evening.
