A federal grand jury in Virginia indicted State Attorney General Alicia Ramos on Thursday, according to court filings released after a sealed hearing.

The indictment marks the second time in recent months that a senior state official has faced federal charges linked to ongoing investigations involving political figures.

Court officials confirmed the indictment but have not disclosed specific charges. Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia stated that the case remains under seal pending further proceedings.

Ramos, who has served as attorney general since 2019, has led several high-profile investigations into financial misconduct and corruption involving public officials. Federal authorities declined to comment on whether the new case relates to any of those investigations.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice said the court would schedule Ramos’s initial appearance after the unsealing of the indictment. The attorney general’s office has not issued a public statement.

The federal court has not yet announced when it will release the complete indictment.
