The long-vacant restaurant space at 2323 N. Shepherd Dr. in Houston’s Heights neighborhood, formerly occupied by Piper’s Burgers, is poised for revitalization. A sign announcing an application with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a liquor license has appeared on the premises, hinting at a new tenant. Little Taco Shop Heights LLC, operating under the name Spice Lane, is the applicant, marking a potential expansion from its original location at 3411 Kirby Dr. Little Taco Shop is also known for being a sister establishment to Fat Bao, a noted steamed bun restaurant.

Before its closure, Piper’s Burgers was part of the Piper’s Hospitality Group, which also operates Preslee’s and Woodland Social. The burger joint temporarily closed in June 2023 due to city property acquisitions for a bike lane project, as stated in a social media announcement. However, the closure became permanent, leading to a brief rebranding as Piper’s Cantina, a casual Mexican eatery with an outdoor patio.

Spice Lane, which opened in Sugar Land in 2020 but recently shut its doors, is set to bring new culinary offerings to the site. Despite requests, Little Taco Shop has not commented on the specifics of their plans for the new location. This move signals a continued growth trend for Little Taco Shop, aligning with its strategy of expanding successful food concepts within Houston’s vibrant dining scene.
