New Demon Slayer film lands $37.5M debut, setting Japanese box office records

The film adaptation of the popular manga and anime series “Demon Slayer” has set new records in Japan by earning a box office revenue of 37.5 million dollars, according to the film industry body Kogyo Tsushinsha.

The movie premiered on July 18, 2023, and reached the 10-billion-yen milestone, equivalent to 67 million dollars, in just eight days.

The previous record-holder was the last installment of the “Demon Slayer” series, which achieved the same figure after 10 days in 2020.

Kogyo Tsushinsha announced the new record on Monday, highlighting the film’s significant commercial success.

The creators of the movie expressed gratitude to fans who attended theater screenings and to the theater staff responsible for bringing the film to audiences.

The “Demon Slayer” series has consistently demonstrated strong box office performances, indicating its ongoing popularity and influence in the Japanese entertainment industry.
