MANILA, Philippines — National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag said Saturday that the agency is prepared to testify at the April 29 House Committee on Justice hearing on impeachment complaints against Sara Duterte, including its investigation into her alleged threats against Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Liza Araneta Marcos, and Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

Matibag said he will attend the hearing along with investigators involved in the case, including those who conducted the probe before his tenure.

He said the NBI’s testimony will cover its investigation into Duterte’s public statements, including digital materials and social media posts that were examined and authenticated by the agency.

Matibag said the NBI has already filed a complaint before the National Prosecution Service under the Department of Justice and will present supporting documents and video recordings during the hearing.

He said the investigating team found basis for possible violations of the Revised Penal Code, including grave threats and inciting to sedition, based on Duterte’s statements and related materials.

Matibag said the NBI investigates all reported threats, regardless of the individuals involved, once cases are brought to the agency.

He added that investigators have not identified any individual linked to the alleged contracting referenced in Duterte’s statements but continue to examine related information, including her counter-affidavit and reports about activities connected to the case.

The House Committee on Justice hearing is expected to include the NBI’s findings, evidence authentication, and the basis for its recommendation to file charges.
