Victor Wembanyama scored 39 points and grabbed nine rebounds on Saturday night in San Antonio as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 126-123, in an NBA regular-season game where Anthony Edwards posted a season-high 55 points but could not prevent Minnesota from losing.

Wembanyama secured a crucial offensive rebound in the final seconds to help San Antonio maintain its narrow lead and close out the victory at home.

Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves’ offense with 55 points, which marked his season high and kept Minnesota within striking distance throughout the game.

Donte DiVincenzo gave Minnesota a 119-118 lead when he made a 24-foot three-pointer with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Wembanyama answered DiVincenzo’s shot by hitting a 20-foot jumper on the next Spurs possession to reclaim a 120-119 lead for San Antonio.

Wembanyama then blocked Joan Beringer’s reverse layup attempt 13 seconds later, preventing Minnesota from regaining the lead in the closing minute.

De’Aaron Fox contributed 25 points and 12 assists for the Spurs as the team avoided a season sweep in the three-game series against the Timberwolves.

San Antonio’s win halted Minnesota’s bid to complete a three-game regular-season sweep and added a high-scoring performance by Wembanyama to the Spurs’ home record.

The Timberwolves stayed within one possession in the final seconds but could not convert their last opportunities after Wembanyama’s late rebound and defensive stop.

The game featured multiple lead changes in the final two minutes as both teams traded key baskets from the perimeter and midrange.

San Antonio used Wembanyama’s scoring, Fox’s playmaking, and late-game execution to secure the three-point margin at the final buzzer.

Minnesota relied heavily on Edwards’ offense, as his 55 points paced the Timberwolves and kept them competitive in the final quarter.

The result adjusted the head-to-head record between San Antonio and Minnesota for the current season, with the Spurs preventing a 3-0 sweep by the Timberwolves.
