LOS ANGELES — Luka Dončić has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $165 million with the Los Angeles Lakers, keeping him under contract through the 2027–28 NBA season. The agreement, announced Saturday, includes a player option for the final year.

Dončić joined the Lakers six months ago in a trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. The 26-year-old guard has stated his goal to bring championships to Los Angeles, citing the city and franchise’s prestige as motivators.

Lakers executives cited Dončić’s on-court performance during the season and his commitment to offseason training as key factors in the decision to secure his long-term presence with the team.

The extension is intended to provide roster continuity and support the team’s efforts to compete for championship titles in the coming years.

NBA analysts have observed that retaining Dončić significantly bolsters the Lakers’ status as contenders in the Western Conference.

No additional terms of the contract were disclosed.
