HOUSTON, Texas — Kevin Durant was officially introduced as a member of the Houston Rockets on Sunday, his 37th birthday, marking his return to Texas as part of the largest trade in NBA history.
Durant last played in Texas during his freshman year at the University of Texas before entering the NBA. His return comes through a seven-team trade involving 13 players, including former teams such as the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets.
The Rockets acquired Durant in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and additional assets. Center Clint Capela also joined Houston as part of the deal. The transaction is considered the most complex and expansive trade in league history.
Houston Rockets management expressed optimism about the acquisition, calling it a pivotal step in the team’s future direction. Durant’s current contract with the Rockets is valued at $54.7 million, with discussions of a possible extension underway.
Durant, a former NBA MVP and multiple-time champion, previously played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and most recently, the Phoenix Suns. He has expressed enthusiasm for his new role in Houston.
“This is a new chapter, and I’m ready to get to work,” Durant said during his introductory press conference.
The Rockets anticipate Durant will play a key leadership role and contribute significantly on both ends of the court. His presence is expected to support the development of younger players and strengthen the team’s competitive position in the Western Conference.
