CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul hinted at his retirement on Saturday before leading his team to a 131-116 win over the Charlotte Hornets in what was described as his final NBA game in his home state of North Carolina.

Paul, who grew up in Winston-Salem and played one season at Wake Forest University, posted a social media video about 90 minutes before tipoff in which he referenced the possibility that he might not return to play in North Carolina.

The veteran point guard participated in pregame warmups and interacted with Hornets staff, arena personnel, and fans wearing jerseys from various stages of his career. Clippers and Hornets officials coordinated tributes during the game, including video highlights of Paul’s NBA milestones and announcements recognizing his North Carolina roots.

After the game, friends, family, and former coaches greeted him near the visitors’ tunnel.

Paul did not announce a formal retirement date, and the Clippers and NBA have not released information regarding any future retirement ceremonies. Team representatives said updates would be provided once Paul makes a definitive decision about his career.
