Fort Bend Independent School District is responding to allegations involving a first-grade student at Rosa Parks Elementary School in Fort Bend County.
The child’s mother claims her son suffered a sexual assault from classmates on September 28.
The teacher reportedly noticed the child walking abnormally and sent him to the nurse. The student did not disclose details at first. He later told his grandmother that one classmate created a distraction while another used a stick to assault him.
The mother said she struggled to obtain assistance from school staff. She asked that her son be moved to another class but was told no seats were available. She also claimed staff warned that police would be called if she recorded meetings about the case.
The mother reported the incident to Fort Bend ISD Police and sought medical care, which she says confirmed the assault. She stated that no meaningful action occurred for almost a month and that her son remained in the same classroom near the students accused in the incident. She said a change in placement happened only after the superintendent became aware of the matter.
The child has not attended school for a week. The mother said she will not send him back unless she receives assurance that he will not have contact with the students accused in the incident.
Fort Bend ISD released a statement confirming an investigation involving Fort Bend ISD Police, school administrators, teachers, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
The investigation included review of student and staff statements and available video. The district concluded that the evidence did not meet the threshold to prove a crime beyond a reasonable doubt. The district stated that it is in contact with the family and is providing support.
