SAN ANTONIO, Texas — More than 145,000 students are expected to attend UT San Antonio and the Alamo Colleges District this fall as both institutions expand degree programs and workforce training.
Classes began Monday, with UT San Antonio projecting enrollment of more than 42,000 students and Alamo Colleges expecting about 103,000 students across its five colleges: Northeast Lakeview, Northwest Vista, Palo Alto, San Antonio and St. Philip’s.
UT San Antonio expects more than 6,000 incoming freshmen this fall. The university also expanded its downtown presence, with its College of AI, Cyber and Computing operating from San Pedro I and the newly opened San Pedro II on Dolorosa Street.
The university added undergraduate and graduate programs in health sciences, aerospace engineering, film and media, as well as new online programs in business and global affairs.
Alamo Colleges also launched the Alamo Technical Institute, a centralized program that gives students access to short-term workforce credentials and training. District officials said the initiative marks the first time the district has provided a single access point for those programs.
ATI provides centralized intake and advising, skills assessments, career navigation and streamlined enrollment. Students can also access financial aid and workforce programs, including Adult Education and Literacy, SA Ready to Work and Workforce Pell.
The program primarily targets working adults seeking new credentials, additional training or a career change.
The district expects record enrollment while facing an estimated $27 million budget gap. Alamo Colleges trustees are also considering a property tax increase as the district addresses rising enrollment and operating costs.
“At the Alamo Colleges District, we know our region’s growth must translate into real economic mobility for the people who call San Antonio home,” Chancellor Mike Flores said.
Flores said ATI would provide working adults with a clearer path to in-demand careers while helping employers develop a skilled workforce.
