MANILA, Philippines– The family of Mary Jane Veloso has asked the Supreme Court to speed up the resolution of her case against her alleged human traffickers.

The request was filed on October 30 through Veloso’s legal representatives, who raised concern over delays in the proceedings.

Veloso was sentenced to death in Indonesia in 2010 for drug trafficking. Her family maintains she was a victim of human trafficking and was deceived into carrying illegal drugs. The case against her alleged recruiters remains pending in Philippine courts.

Her lawyers said the delay affects efforts to seek clemency in Indonesia, where Veloso’s execution is on hold. The family urged the Supreme Court to act quickly, hoping a decision would help strengthen her appeal for mercy.

The Philippine government has repeatedly sought clemency for Veloso, citing her status as a trafficking victim. The case continues to draw attention from human rights and migrant advocacy groups.
